Hi I am Nicholas' mom Karen and this is a photo of my younger sons Alex and Oliver and I on one of the fun "rides" at Legoland, in California.
We took our three boys to Legoland this summer and I am so glad we did. I wanted to share some of the park highlights and services available to families, especially families who have children or family members with special needs. Nicholas' brothers have Autism. For a family with children with special needs going to new places and busy places like Legoland can be very difficult. Legoland really makes it easy for families of children with special needs to enjoy the park together as a family. For our younger sons, waiting in long lines is very difficult, noises, smells and crowds can be very challenging for them, so we were thrilled to find out that there is a special access pass for families with children who require assistance. This pass made it easier for us to enjoy the park because we were able to go in the Exit of each ride we wanted to go on and be given an exact time to come back. This made it so that if we had to wait a long time we could go find somewhere quiet to sit and wait instead of standing in lines. Sometimes we were able to ride almost right away.
The staff at the rides and the park were fantastic. Each of them making a point of talking to our kids and offering assistance on and off rides. There is no additional fee for this pass, just check in with customer service when you arrive.
The park also has re-useable family lockers and a service where if you buy something while in the park you can pick it up on your way out of the park, not having to carry it with you all day. One of the highlights of our second day was trading the mini figures with the staff in the park, it was so much fun, for under $3 we were able to trade all day with the staff who all have name tags made out of Lego and if they have a mini figure on them you can trade them for what you have, Nicholas traded several times and it was allot of fun. There is lots to see at Legoland so I recommend comfortable shoes, sunscreen and the lockers so you do not have to carry large bags with you all day. You can rent strollers for the younger ones, and there are lots of places to stop and sit. Oh and they have these amazing APPLE FRENCH FRIES with Whipped cream I totally recommend trying!
I recommend if you are going to buy your drinks at the park purchase the kind you can refill for a small amount of money. Also the lunches in the restaurants for the boys came with raisins and you can upsize your kids pack to get the refillable cup.Which makes a great take home souvenir. The water park had lots of long lines for the slides which were worth the wait, however if we were to do the water park again I would recommend renting a cabana and having a comfortable place to sit and relax.
There was so much to see and do and I loved that all the boys had a great time, regardless of their ages and abilities.
Well we will be back with more Lego posts soon! ~by Karen Owen
